There are no guarantees that Dave will be there during orientation, etc. or that he will be guiding. PLEASE DO NOT take it for granted that Dave will be awaiting you upon arrival. Southern Ohio Outfitters is made up of a staff of EXTREMELY capable managers & guides, so if Dave is not there, the guides will be able to answer any and all questions that you may have. If Dave is not present, they WILL take care of your needs. Dave is a very hands on owner, and is busy taking care of the businesses' every day needs. Dave will try his best to visit with everyone but that is subject based on unforeseen circumstances that happen on a weekly basis, with Southern Ohio Outfitters being one of the U.S.'s largest whitetail operations.

When should we arrive for check-in?
Check in time will be at 4 pm, and check out time will 10 AM day of departure. We are strict on the check-in time of 4 PM, as we could be out in the field working, etc. Please do not arrive before that time, as there may not be anyone waiting your arrival.
What will be provided for you to eat and drink?
When you arrive, we will have dinner at approximately 6 PM. The days following, you will be provided with a cold breakfast(cereal bars, fruit, etc.), lunch and dinner. If you decide to stay in the woods all day, lunch supplies will be provided for you to make and take. If you decide to sit in the stand all day, if you like something special, please bring it with you.
What type of vehicle should I bring?
Please drive a 4 x 4 capable vehicle in case of bad weather, and to
come up the driveway to the lodge much easier. ATV's and UTV will
only be used by S.O.O employees. So, please don't trailer any in
with you.
How long of a drive should I expect to get to the
properties?
None of the properties will be over 15 to 20 minutes away, and
most of the properties are within 5 minutes. We will personally take
you, unless during the course of the week you feel you would like to
drive yourself.
Where can I buy my hunting license and deer tags?
As soon as you cross over into Ohio, you can buy them at numerous
places. The best place to buy them is probably Wal-Mart. However,
another great place to purchase your license and tags are online at
Ohio's Division Of Wildlife.
Please make sure you have them before you arrive.
What should I bring on my hunt?
BRING YOUR SAFETY HARNESS! We do
not provide them, and in order for you to even get in a tree you
must have one. Also, bow/gun rope, bow/gun hanger, rubber boots,
bottled water, scent eliminating products including detergents to
wash clothes, grunt tube, and rattling antlers. They will not be provided for you. Any
special toiletries that you use please bring these as well. LIGHTED KNOCKS are a mandatory requirement. If you come to SOO without them you can NOT hunt until you get them on your setup. So please, come to camp with them. Please realize these are typically a little more heavy and causes your hunting setup to shoot slightly slower. If you come to camp and are NOT proficient with your equipment, such as missing the vitals on a 3-D target at 20 yards, SOO reserves the right to cancel your hunt on the spot. We expect everyone to show up to camp knowing where their equipment is shooting and proficient enough to make ethical, clean shots.
How many hunters should I expect in camp?
The number of hunters in camp per week varies from not only the
dates you book, but also from year to year as well, and will be
based on the property SOO leases as we are expanding in our efforts
to add as much continuous properties as we can to manage our deer
herds and in an effort to stay up with the rising costs in the
economy. We will always be able to accommodate the hunters we book
and have in camp.
What happens if I shoot a buck under the minimum score?
At SOO we have a 130 minimum. If you shoot a 2.5 year old, or something that is substantially smaller than a 130, you will be expected to pay a $1000 fine. There will be times that the owner and guides will give you the green light to shoot a whitetail that doesnt meet the minimum such as a big framed 8 thats mature, but poor browtines and G3s, but is 4 years old. At SOO, the age of an animal means more than the inches on the head. There are exceptions to the rule and we will make this very clear in camp as well as your guides.
